How to be the best dressed bridesmaid

May 10, 2016

So, how far in advance should I be thinking about my bridesmaid dresses?
We’d always recommend allowing three months for delivery and at least one month for alterations, so start planning four months ahead. That said, unless you’re expecting fluctuations in fit we’d suggest ordering six months in advance to avoid any last minute stresses.

Are the dresses made to measure?
All of our dresses come in standard sizes, so while they may fit many of your ladies perfectly, others may require some alterations to achieve that ideal fit.

How do I choose the right bridesmaid dresses for my wedding?
Think about your venue, theme, season and style of your wedding and your own bridal gown to make sure the bridesmaid outfits suit and compliment the tone of the day. A formal church ceremony, laid-back garden party and barefoot beach affair will each demand very different styles, silhouettes, colours and fabrics. Chiffon or tulle are a lighthearted favourite for summer weddings, whereas crepe and silk are most popular for winter nuptials for example.

How do I find the right style for my bridesmaids?
Bridesmaids often tend to be different shapes and sizes, so if this is the dilemma you face a good option would be to choose different styles in the same colour or material. Certain cuts – such as Monique Lhuillier 450302 – can be worn in more than one way, meaning more versatility in suiting differing body shapes, and more chance of keeping all of your bridesmaids happy!

Do I need an appointment or can I just come along and browse?
We have over 300 dresses and over 20 fabric colour palettes in store so you’ll need an appointment and a personal consultant on hand to make sure you’re not overwhelmed and instead have all the help you need to find the right style. We also want to ensure your bridesmaids have lots of time to try on the collection – after all, you won’t know if it’s The One until you try.

What if some of my bridesmaids live abroad or can’t make the appointment?
Once you’ve decided on your favourite style we just require simple measurements for sizing, and we’ll be on hand to guide you through to ensure the process is as effortless as possible. You’re more than welcome to take pictures throughout your appointment to share with your bridesmaids – or go one better with a live Skype chat during your appointment to include absent friends.

What if one of my bridesmaids is very self-conscious or a plus size?
One way to ease her concerns is for you to come for an appointment with her first, then come back with the rest of your bridal party at a later date. Or if you’d all like to visit together just mention that you would like two changing rooms when you book to give you that little extra privacy. And don’t worry about sizes, all our dresses can be ordered up to a US26, with larger sizes offered by certain designers.

What sizes are your samples?
Samples are usually sizes US10-14 (around a UK12-16), however we do have some US16 to US20 samples too. Don’t worry if a sample is too small – we still recommend you try it on as it will give you a pretty good idea of its style and fit. And if the dress is too big we can always pin it to fit, which can be really effective.
